MIRI: Locals have been reminded to understand and appreciate the value of water for sustainable development.

Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting gave this reminder on Saturday at Kampung Pulau Melayu during World Water Day 2021 celebration.

“How we value water determines how water is managed and shared,” he said.

He explained that the value of water much more than its price.

“Water has enormous and complex value for households, culture, health, education, economics and integrity of a country’s natural environment,” he said.

“If we overlook these, we will mismanage this finite, irreplaceable resource.”

Then he pointed to United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aimed at ensuring enduring water supply and proper sanitation for all.

“Without a comprehensive understanding of the multi-dimensional value of water, we will be unable to safeguard it for the benefit of everyone,” he said.
