STATE Pakatan Harapan chairman, Chong Chieng Jen (PH-Kota Sentosa), lamented that Gabungan Parti Sarawak has resorted to politics of bullying.

“You see what happened; it is the epitome of GPS’ politics of bullying. The way that the speakers handled the situation when I was debating; they shouted,” he said yesterday.

Earlier, the Kota Sentosa assemblyman was stopped from participating further in the debate on Supply (2020) Bill, 2019 after making outrageous remarks against Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

DUN Speaker Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar explained that Chong’s remarks breached Standing Order 32(11) which gave him grounds to terminate the debate.

Chong explained further to reporters that Asfia had wrongly stopped his debate halfway and labelled him a tool used by GPS to bully the minority in the House.

He also alleged that the politics of bullying is not confined to the House and singled out Federal Village Committee Management Council (MPKKP) as a prime example.

“Why are they fearful? I understand yesterday that 90 percent of the debates are on MPPKP,” said Chong.

“Previously they bullied the rural people and said that if the people are not supporting them, they are not going to get pebbles for their roads, essentially using the people’s money to hold them to ransom.”

Chong said that MPKKP will combat the politics of bullying and will give people a choice.

“It provides alternative resources and is a channel for the federal government to allocate resources for the rural people,” he explained.
