KUCHING: The police have been instructed to conduct regular patrols around Lorong Satok 21 after a fire broke out at a house in the housing area for the fourth time within a few days.

The move came after it grabbed the attention of Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki, who visited the victim’s home.

Ibrahim said regular patrol in the area would help mitigate the chances of recurrence as well as to increase safety in the area.

“We have asked the police to come to the area more often to conduct patrols.

“Now, we can see that they are patrolling the area about two or three times a day,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters after handing over contributions to the victims affected by the alleged arson.

“This has been quite an interesting case where even the owners are unaware of the motives of the perpetrators.

“They robbed the house, then proceeded to set it on fire multiple times,” he lamented.

On top of that, Ibrahim said the local community have also established a neighbourhood watch group to further enhance the safety of their housing area.

“We suggested this and it already has been established. This method has been adopted in many areas of Kuching and has proven to be effective in reducing crime rates,” he added.

On the contribution, Ibrahim said it was a joint effort by the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Satok Service Centre alongside the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Satok Branch and the Green Road Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK).

“We aim to alleviate their burden during this time when they are waiting for their insurance claims and so on.

“We are also hoping to lift their spirits so that they can go on with their lives without fear of a similar event recurring,” he explained.
