SIBU: The 3rd Sarawak Games (SUKSAR) held here witnessed its first karate gold medal in the men’s Kata Individual category by Repdaneil Mohd Raziq, a 17-year-old athlete from the northern zone.

In an interview with New Sarawak Tribune today (Jan 15), Repdaneil discussed his preparation challenges, “The primary challenge I face in preparing for SUKSAR is balancing my studies and training. As an SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) student, I must plan and allocate suitable time for training. In fact, I need to rush back today to prepare for my examination. The key is consistency. Training at least two to three times a week is sufficient.”

Repdaneil speaks to reporters.

In the same category, Fabio Hendrick Bobby of the central zone earned the silver medal, while the bronze medals were awarded to Mohammad Azizul Mohd Aminanullah and Hayden Peri from the central and southern zones respectively.

In the women’s Kata Individual category, Annabelle Ping Balan from the northern zone clinched the gold. Nurin Syukrina Salleh, also from the northern zone, secured the silver medal. Central zone athletes Jemima George and Ainaa Batrisya won the first and second bronze medals in this category.
