SARATOK: Swift action by Rh Julius residents prevented their 16-door longhouse at Jalan Awik here from being ravaged by a fire yesterday (Mar 13).

The fire which occurred around 6.45pm, damaged some household items in one of the doors (pintu).

The longhouse did not suffer any structural damage. It is believed that the fire was caused by a short-circuit.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the fire was quickly put out by three residents with fire extinguishers.

Firemen from the Saratok fire station, 12 km away from the longhouse, who were deployed to the scene, inspected the longhouse and made sure it was safe.
