KUCHING: Sri Aman residents are urged to conserve water in view of worsening drought which has caused water levels at treatment facilities in the division to drop.

Among the water treatment facilities affected are Bayai, Stumbin, Seduku, Lingga, Skrang, Engkilili and Lemanak Development Scheme.

Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) yesterday reported through its Facebook page that Bayai can only operate to supply 20MLD due to declining water levels at Sungai Undup which was at 2.2 metres at 2.15pm yesterday.

“Only one pump is operating at the moment which is at Module 3. Because of that, the water pressure is low for all areas supplied by Bayai.

“We hope that residents would use water prudently and conserve its use.”

In an earlier statement, the department assured that water supply for the entire state was in good condition and would cater for everyone’s use.

“It is only in several districts that the water levels are at worrying stage due to the continued drought experienced statewide.”

JBALB maintained that the department was always prepared in the event of water crisis due to prolonged drought. In a statement yesterday, it said seven districts were at the warning phase in terms of the condition of its water treatment facilities.

JBALB also stated that water rationing were being done at six water treatment facilities at Engkilili, Lingga, Stumbin, Seduku, Bayai and Simunjan.
