SONG: Residents have been advised to be cautious after a king cobra was recently spotted at Jalan Takan here this morning.
Civil Defence Force (APM) Kapit officer Captain Mohamad Noor Ini said they received a distress call around 7.15 am on the sighting of the reptile.
A three-member team from APM Song was deployed to the scene and met with the complainant who spotted the king cobra in her kitchen.
“The team promptly got their equipment ready and searched for the reptile but it had apparently gone into hiding.
“The complainant and residents in the area have been advised to be vigilant and immediately alert the authorities if they encounter the snake again,” he said.
The size and length of the king cobra is not known.
King cobras are a venomous snake species found in the forests and jungles of Southeast Asia, particularly in India, Indonesia, and Thailand.
They are also the largest venomous snakes in the world, reaching lengths of up to 18 feet.
The reptile’s distinctive appearance includes a broad, hood-like neck, which it expands when it feels threatened.
Its venom is extremely potent and it is known for its ability to inject large amounts of venom in a single bite, making it a formidable predator.
Despite its fearsome reputation, the king cobra is a shy and reclusive creature that prefers to avoid humans whenever possible.
