PADAWAN: An elderly pedestrian was killed while another was injured after a fatal collision at Kampung Punau, Jalan Puncak Borneo here last night (Oct 25).
Siges Aleng, 76, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) at 10 pm. His body was taken to the hospital for a post-mortem.
Padawan police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said they received a distress call around 9.10 pm about an accident involving a pedestrian and a motorcycle.
A team and SGH paramedics were deployed to the scene.
“The accident happened when a 31-year-old man was riding his motorcycle from Kampung Punau to Mile 10 collided with the victim who was walking along the roadside to a shop.
“As a result, the encounter led to the untimely death of the victim and left the rider with a broken arm and other bodily injuries.
“Investigations also found that the road lacked proper lighting, leading to low visibility at the time of the accident,” he said.
Meanwhile, the injured rider, who did not have a driving licence, was taken to SGH for further treatment.
Abang Zainal said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
