THE Federal government has announced a review of the annual grant, Pemberian Berdasarkan Tahap Pembangunan Ekonomi, Infrastruktur Dan Kesejahteraan Hidup (Geran TAHAP) in an effort to accelerate economic development and improve the standard of living for the people.

Deputy Premier cum Second Minister of Finance and New Economy Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the grant was designed to achieve balanced socio-economic development across regions, with priority given to less developed states.

“The grant will be provided to all the states and the review of Geran TAHAP takes into account the levels of economic development, infrastructure, and the well-being of the people in each state.

“By providing additional financial resources, the government aims to further boost progress and uplift the living standards of the people in Sarawak,” he said.

He said this in his ministerial winding-up speech during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today.

Uggah dislcosed that beginning this year, the grant allocated to Sarawak has been raised to RM29.274 million and it reflects the government’s commitment to supporting economic growth and infrastructure development.

“This increase in the grant demonstrates the government’s recognition of Sarawak’s development efforts and its commitment to fostering equitable growth and development across the nation,” he added.

The additional funding will contribute to the ongoing initiatives and projects aimed at enhancing the economic potential, infrastructure and overall quality of life in Sarawak.

He reiterated the government remained dedicated to supporting all states in their journey towards sustainable development, ensuring that the benefits of progress are shared by all Malaysians.

“I also would like to mention that the review of Geran TAHAP is a testament to the government’s commitment to achieving balanced and inclusive development throughout the country,” he said.
