RM1.9mil multipurpose hall to benefit villagers

KUCHING: Residents of Kampung Tanah Hitam 1 and Kampung Tanah Hitam 2 in Sematan can now rejoice as they welcome a new multipurpose hall costing RM1.9 million.

Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan said this new facility will cater to various needs, including sports activities, community events, and programmes organised by the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of the villages.

During the officiating ceremony here on Thursday, he stressed the importance of forming a special JKKK for Kampung Tanah Hitam 1 and Kampung Tanah Hitam 2 to oversee the maintenance and development of the hall in the future.

The construction of this multipurpose hall, he noted, had cost RM1.9 million.

Furthermore, he revealed plans to upgrade the football field in Sematan to a synthetic one, with an allocation of over RM1 million.

He said the project is expected to be tendered this year, while an allocation of up to RM350,000 will be allocated to upgrade the futsal court which includes the construction of a new court and roofing.

He also announced an allocation amounting to RM3,000 to JKKK Kampung Tanah Hitam 1 for the purpose of purchasing the needs of this hall such as chairs and tables.

Among the attendees were Lundu District Council acting secretary Effa Natrah Mohamad Riduan, Lundu District Officer’s representatives Isa Limon and Penghulu Jumahdi Sabian.
