KUCHING: Three persons were arrested for attempting to smuggle RM1 million worth of goods in three lorries into Indonesia on Wednesday evening.

State General Operations Force (GOF) Battalion 11 commanding officer Supt Rosdi Inai revealed that they managed to intercept the attempt in a roadblock set up near Kampung Serikin, Bau at 6.05pm after receiving a tip-off.

Upon closer inspection of the lorries, it was found that they were filled with 165 gunnysacks of used clothes, 44 gunnysacks of animal feed, 2,400 boxes of drinks and 115 boxes of food.

The lorry drivers, aged between 32 and 44, had no documents to allow them to ferry the items across the border which led to their arrest. The items were later seized.

Rosdi added that based on the information received, these items were in high demand in Indonesia.

A total of 10 GOF personnel with two Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission officers carried out the raid.

The lorry drivers would be charged under Section 135(1)(e) of the Customs Act 1967. The lorries were brought to Bau police station for further investigation.
