KUCHING: The RM10,000 fine issued to the Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) violators would serve as a good way to stimulate compliance among the people.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang said the amount may seem too expensive for the people but it is the only way to shape the people’s attitude in taking the Covid-19 SOP seriously.

“If you compare our country to Japan or Korea, you would not be able to find the foreign countries imposing such high amount of fine.

“However, this extreme measure is fitting in the context of our people because our people do not have the same law-abiding attitude of those citizens in Japan or Korea.

“Therefore, this RM10,000 fine would be able to assist us in stimulating compliance among the people,” he said.

He said this during a casual interview with Siti Nadya Hassani from Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) broadcasted live on his Facebook page today (March 14).
