MIRI: The Sarawak government has approved an allocation of RM100,000 for the upgrading of the Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) Church at Jalan Airport here.

The upgrading works will include the installation of awnings at the church.

The allocation will be disbursed via the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) of Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture and Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting.

“The awnings will be installed once the tendering process is completed within this year,” said Ting when met after visiting the church yesterday (Oct 18) morning.

The BEM Church situated at Jalan Airport has receiving RTP funds and grants from the Unit for Other Religious (Unifor) since it was completed in 2015.

In 2020, the church received financial aid twice in the form of grants amounting to RM100,000 from Unifor.

In August this year, the church also received an allocation of more than RM300,000 under Ting’s RTP.

The church can accommodate around 400 people at a time.
