KUCHING: A sum of RM14.3 million has been approved for treated water supply project in Ulu Roban.

Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Datuk Ali Biju said the allocation was approved by the Ministry of Rural Development (KPLB) last January and the project would be implemented under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).

Ali, who is Saratok MP, added that the project would benefit villagers in six longhouses that have yet to enjoy treated water supply.

“The project is funded by the federal government through KLPB with Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) as the implementing agency.

“The project’s scope of work involves installation of 14 kilometres of pipes, a reservoir, a booster station and other related works.

“I have been made to understand that the project is undergoing the process of appointment of consultants and it is expected to be tendered in the first quarter of 2022,” he said.

The Krian assemblyman said he had attended a detailed briefing on water supply projects in Saratok parliamentary constituency particularly in Ulu Roban during his official visit to Sarawak Ministry of Utilities on Feb 26.
