KUCHING: A sum of RM350 million has been approved by the state government for the Stampin Resettlement Area Flood Mitigation project, Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap said.

He made the announcement in a press statement today after attending a meeting conducted by Deputy Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Datuk Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel yesterday (July 13).

The meeting was held following Yap’s numerous appeal to the government for funding to resolve the flooding issue.

“During the meeting, the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) requested one year to carry out and complete a detailed feasibility and comprehensive study and planning for the scope of works for the implementation of the project in phases.

“The first phase of the critical works of the project (roads, drains and bund) is expected to start next year after completion of the study and approval by all the relevant government agencies and department,” he said.

Yap thanked Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for approving the fund.
