KUCHING: About RM4 million is allocated to improve tourism infrastructure under the Sri Aman Development Agency (SADA).

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan said there are several places of attraction such as Wong Jaban, Wong Radak and Wong Telanjing waterfalls which have gained popularity among the local people as well as tourists.

“It’s a new area. Some people find out about the waterfalls from their friends who are staying there, and then they went there to do ‘glamping’ (glamorous camping).

“From there, they promote using their social media platforms and now it has become viral.

“Because of that, we propose under our SADA project where we are allocated RM1.5 billion. Under the tourism committee, about RM4 million has been approved by SADA to upgrade the infrastructure in the area,” he told reporters after officiating at the ‘Magnificent Sarawak: An Unforgettable Trip’ writing competition prize-giving high tea organised by DayakDaily at a hotel here, last night.

Snowdan added that through this upgrades, it will give the opportunity for the locals to conduct economic activities in the area.

“They might want to sell some products or the likes or even impose entrance fee to those coming there.

“The people can go to those areas, but as we are talking about responsible tourism, we must keep the place clean and do not destroy the habitat there as well as to not litter,” he stressed.

Wong Jaban, Wong Telanjing and Wong Radak waterfalls are all tourism products under SADA.
