KAPIT: Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi says Kapit has never been left out of the government’s numerous assistance and development programmes.

He said that despite changes in the federal administration previously, Putrajaya had channelled a total of RM7.1 billion to Kapit in the last five years.

“Sarawak’s budget was insufficient, but the federal government still allocated funds to the state,” the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) said in a news report.

Earlier, Nanta attended the Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants handover ceremony at Meligai Kapit Hotel here, yesterday (Jan 9).

At the same time, the Kapit MP said he was grateful for the support given during the 15th general election (GE15) where Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) won with a large majority in the constituency.

“The victory signifies the people’s strong support for the government’s good policies,” he said.

Meanwhile, a total of 58 recipients comprising those from Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs), associations, schools, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) received grants totalling RM758,400.

On Sunday (Jan 8), Nanta also took time off to join Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat and Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang at the ‘Majlis Santai Mesra Bersama’ held at the same venue.

The programme was organised by the Kapit District Office to express appreciation to the Kapit MP on his appointment as the new Minister of Works.

Jamit hoped that Nanta’s appointment will result in more effective development, especially in Kapit.

He also took pride in the fact that Kapit, despite being a rural area, has been producing authoritative and responsible leaders.
