RM71 mil investment in digital co-living facility

KUCHING: The Sarawak government has approved RM71 million for the construction of the Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS) Digital Co-Living Nomad Lodge, a groundbreaking initiative in digital communal living.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the lodge’s strategic location adjacent to the TEGAS Digital Village (TDV) in Sama Jaya Free Industrial Zone.

“This facility is designed to support researchers, particularly students engaged in projects at TDV, by providing them with on-site accommodation.

“It will also be the first facility of its kind in Borneo, featuring a lodge and complete facilities such as a gymnasium, mini studio, and others,” said Abang Johari, adding that it will be built within a period of 36 months.

The announcement came during the Sarawak Career and Training Fair 2023 (S-CaT Fair 2023) at Wisma Sabati here today (Nov 25).

The Premier proudly acknowledged TDV’s contributions to Sarawak’s technological advancements, citing the development of the Signal app.

“This app, a pioneering transit signal priority system for Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) in Southeast Asia, exemplifies our youth’s potential. The Co-Living Lodge is intended to further nurture such talents by providing ample research space and facilities,” he added.

Also present were Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn and Deputy Minister for Urban Planning Land Administration and Environment Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development Sarawak Datuk Len Talif Salleh.
