KUCHING: Members of the public are urged to take note of the road closures and detours on Nov 7 and Nov 9 for the upcoming Maulidur Rasul Celebration at Padang Merdeka.

The celebration on Nov 9, scheduled from 7am to 12pm, is expected to draw a crowd totalling 200,000 people. The Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud along with Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and other dignitaries are expected to be present.

The State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, in a statement issued yesterday, said there will be road closures and detours around the field with the full rehearsal on Nov 7 (8am to 11.30am) and celebration day (6.30am to 11am).

The road closures and detours also affect Jalan Main Bazaar to Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg; Jalan Gambier to Jalan Main Bazaar; Jalan Wawasan and Jalan Mcdougall to Padang Merdeka; and Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg to Jalan Barrack (RTM Traffic Light).
