KUCHING: Jalan Temenggong which leads to the Telaga Air Waterfront will be upgraded to a dual carriageway starting next year.

In stating this, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that construction is expected to be completed within the next four years as part of structured development plans.

“We already know that the road from the intersection of Pehin Sri Adenan Satem Highway (FAC Highway) heading up here, the village of Telaga Air through Jalan Temenggong is quite narrow.

“Therefore, a new and wider road is needed in accordance with our aspiration to develop the Telaga Air area as a tourist attractrion location in the future,” he said at the closing of the Telaga Air Regatta Festival 2023 at Telaga Air Esplanade, here on Sunday (Dec 3).

In a related development, he said Telaga Air has tourism potential and had been included in plans to further boost the tourism sector and attractions in Kuching.

“The state government together with the relevant representatives as well as the Land and Survey Department and the Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) will restructure developments at the location.

“Therefore, various developments will be brought in here including the expansion of the river banks, the construction of a mosque by the river, creating leisure facilities and others,” he said.

Abang Johari said Telaga Air is also an area that is suitable for water sports, as well as the gastronomy sector that could stimulate economic activities there.
