KUCHING: The Sarawak Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (Dapsy) breached the law and was insensitive when its members affixed Mandarin characters onto some road signs in the city.

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Information Chief, Datuk Idris Buang said that in doing what they did they were not mindful of multi-racial harmony in the state which is highly cherished.

“It is in fact very unfortunate. DAP Sarawak chief, Chong Chieng Jen, needs to review their deeds and ensure that their members are more respectful and mindful of other people’s feelings,” he said in a press statement today (August 24).

The Muara Tuang assemblyman also reminded DAP that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is multi-racial in form and substance, not just in name but also in practice and principles.

“We jealously guard our multi-racial harmony and solidarity whereas DAP and its allies are quite callous … as contained in their speeches and actions for many years.”

Idris also recalled the infamous speeches made by Nga Kor Meng and many other DAP leaders, which he said were mere rhetoric and racially insensitive.

“With Merdeka approaching, we as multi-racial Malaysians must celebrate our unity with patriotism.

“However, Dapsy’s and DAP’s insensitive act had given us some discomfort and some bad taste in the mouth,” he concluded.
