Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg

KAPIT: The state government is looking to improve the roads in this town other parts of the division to intensify and hasten the implementation of local development projects.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said this would help contractors in terms of mobilisation of assets and logistics.

“We are looking for alternatives to resolve issues of logistics because the contractors are utilising the road (to transport materials).

“Another alternative is to use the river to transport construction materials, but it is cheaper to use the road as it allows higher volume of cargoes,” he said after chairing the State Development Coordination Committee Meeting at the Kapit Division State Government Complex here yesterday (Feb 1).

Abang Johari said logistical problems were often faced by contractors, thus contributing to delays in the implementation of projects.

“We are trying to develop Bukit Mabong District, but the contractors are facing problems of transporting construction materials there; thus the delays,” he said.

The Premier also pointed out that disagreement with landowners also contributed to the delays in the implementation of projects.

“They (the landowners) initially agreed, so the matter must be solved, which in turn slows down the projects,” he said.

Nevertheless, while the projects face inevitable delays, he assured that they will continue to be implemented.

“The state government is also looking to further develop water and electricity supplies,” he said.
