KUALA LUMPUR: At midnight, the price of RON95 and RON97 will increase by four sen to RM1.97 per litre and RM2.27 per litre respectively.
The new weekly fuel price starts Feb 9 to Feb 15. The price of diesel, however, is unchanged at RM2.18 per litre.
“The international market price of refined petroleum products has increased since last week from US$60 (US$1 = RM4.06) per barrel to US$62 per barrel for RON95, and from US$72 per barrel to US$73 per barrel for diesel.
A statement from the Finance Ministry today said that despite the climb in global crude oil price contributing to the higher retail price of petrol and diesel products, the price of RON95 is still below the government’s price cap of RM2.20 per litre.
It added that based on the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APC), the price of diesel should rightly go up by one sen to RM2.19 per litre for this period.
“However, to honour a promise made by the Pakatan Harapan Federal Government to cap the price of diesel at RM2.18 per litre, the price is unchanged for this period,” the statement said.– Bernama
