Sabah couple Guaianus, Kona win veteran category

KOTA MARUDU: Sabah couple Guaianus Salagan and Kona Liau won the veteran men and women open run category in the 8Km Kota Marudu Run, Sunday.

The men and women open category was won by Ruston Masri and Epang Rawi. Guainus, who clocked the fastest time of 28 minutes and 24.61 seconds, beat home runners Jainus Son and third-seed Madusun Rumnodok.

Meanwhile in the men’s open category Ruston who clocked the best time of 28:24.60s beat his closest rival Liman Sintom and third-placed Fredly Julius.

In the open women’s category Epang Sarawai clocked 30:06.38s, which was only challenged by her sister Sinopilin and the third place was won by Anessa Lodungki.

For the veteran female category, Kona met the target afterclocking 41:10:52s, followed by runner-up Vilin @ Emelda Ulut and third Soihi Ganduhan from Kiulu.

Epang told Bernama the track and weather conditions allowed her to run well.

She said it was the second event she won this week after the ‘Menyimbul  Tokou Run’ event in Beaufort.

Meanwhile, in the female students’ category, Suzianah Eml emerged winner, while Ester Shane and Michelle Gollip completed the podium.

Taufiq Jumau claimed the male students’ category title while Kevin Koniel and Reonarldeer Saunal finished second and third respectively.

The race began at the Kota Marudu field at 6 am, passed Goshen town roundabout, Kampung Batu Enam Jalan Pekan Lama, Kampung Korongkom and back to Kota Marudu town. – Bernama
