KUCHING: About 727 programmes have been drawn up by the Sarawak National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) in conjunction with its Golden Jubilee celebration next year.
Its president Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said about 164 activities have been implemented this year.
“This clearly shows the involvement of Saberkas in the agenda of developing the community and youths, particularly in Sarawak.
“For next year’s 50th golden jubilee celebration, the programmes are divided into three clusters namely – education, leadership and training cluster; social, recreation and welfare cluster and entrepreneurship and economy cluster.”
He was speaking to reporters after chairing the 55th Saberkas supreme committee meeting at a hotel here, Monday (Dec 5).
Abdul Karim, who is also Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development said there are 78 Saberkas branches throughout Sarawak with over 50,000 members.
“Each branch is very active in organising programmes, for example, Saberkas Sports Carnival (KASUS), Saberkas Prihatin and others. We will always be there.
“They (Saberkas members) will always be on the ground with the community because they want to instill the community spirit, especially among the youths,” he said.
He also stressed that Saberkas is a good grooming platform for young leaders.
“Hence why we have many engagement programmes which are youth-centric as this is one of the ways to be closer to them.
“We want to see the wakil rakyat on the ground together with the youth and the community,” he added.
Among those present were Samariang assemblywoman Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Daro assemblyman cum Saberkas secretary-general Shafiee Ahmad, Layar assemblyman Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu and other Saberkas members.
