KUCHING: Kuching City North Council (DBKU) and the Kejiranan Mesra (KJM) Samariang welcomed the tradition of distributing bubur pedas (spicy porridge) during the Ramadan month.
DBKU mayor, Hilmy Othman, representing Samariang assemblywoman, Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali said that the distribution of spicy porridge is an annual activity.
“The distribution of spicy porridge is an activity that can strengthen the bond between people and hopefully, we can receive blessings from God for this effort.
“Samariang is not the only constituency where we have organised spicy porridge distribution, we have also organize it at other constituencies like Demak Laut and more,” Hilmy said in his speech during the launching of the ‘KJM Samariang Bubur Pedas’ programme held at Darul Falah Samariang Baru surau.
He expressed hope that the public will continue initiating efforts to organise activities for the betterment of the communities, envisioning these programmes as meaningful platforms, fostering greater participation and symbolising unity and harmony among societies.
He also highlighted that DBKU has been actively involved in charitable activities before the holy month of Ramadan, undertaking communal tasks such as cleaning graveyards and mosque compounds.
“I am proud of KJM under the wings of DBKU for carrying our charitable activities,” he added.
Collaborating with DBKU and KJM were Parti Pesaka Bersatu (PBB) N7 Samariang, Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS), Mydin, Maggi, The Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS), Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), Ahmad Tamar and National Consumer Action Council (MTPN).
Meanwhile, Maggi distributed 600 packs of bubur lambuk (savoury porridge) during the programme and the MTPN presented donations to 20 asnafs within the Samariang constituency.
