MIRI: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for the missing crew of MV Geos which caught fire on Tuesday continued yesterday in the vessel itself.
Miri Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director Maritime Captain Md Fauzi Othman said the search and rescue for Mohamad Saiful Ashnar,31, was assisted by the Miri Fire and Rescue Department.
“(Today’s) SAR operation focuses in MV Goes itself because according to victims who were saved on Tuesday, Mohamad was not around during the head count by the captain,” he said in a statement yesterday.
He said the search for the victim in waters around the area was still continued using assets belonging to the agency, the royal Malaysian Navy and Petronas.
The MV Goes with 39 crew members on board caught fire at about 3.15 am on Tuesday. Thirty-eight of the crew members were rescued.
