KUCHING: Sarawak has received a lot of attention, said Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

The Land of the Hornbill, he said, after 60 years of being part of Malaysia is now in the limelight.

“This year is the 60th year of formation of Malaysia, and Sarawak is part of the original four countries in forming Malaysia.

“Interestingly after 60 years, Sarawak is the centre of attention,” he said in a video message posted on his Facebook page.

Dr Sim, who is also the Health, Local Government and Housing Minister, said among the examples of Sarawak having received a lot of attention was following the first German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s visit to Sarawak this year.

“Then, we saw the Hong Kong Economics and Trade Asean Regional Office based in Jakarta held a Chinese New Year gathering in Sarawak for the first time.

“Apart from that, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had invited Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to join him on an official visit to Singapore and Brunei,” he said.
