KUCHING: To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Malaysia-China comprehenship strategic partneship, a run, dubbed the Sarawak-China Friendship Run, will take place on Aug 27 at the Malaysia-China Friendship Park here.
It is also organised to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year.
In addition to promoting a healthy lifestyle among the community, the event hopes to foster brotherhood between Malaysia and China, especially to deepen and strengthen the friendship between the people of Sarawak and China.
The Sarawak-China Friendship Run organising committee has also paid a courtesy call on Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah recently.
The visit, led by organising chairmen Datuk Wee Kok Hui and Kho Swee Aik, extended an invitation to Abdul Karim to officiate the run’s opening ceremony as the guest of honour.
One of the highlights of the friendship run is that every participant will receive a running T-shirt and medal upon completing the 3km or 5km route.
The medal features a Peking Opera Wushu Panda design that can be removed to become an adorable magnet for decoration.
The friendship run is open to all Malaysian and Chinese citizens, with early bird registration offering discounted rates for both 3km and 5km routes.
The early bird price for the 3km route is RM34 (original price RM39), and the 5km route is RM39 (original price RM49).
Members of the public who are interested in taking part are encouraged to register before the offer ends on June 18 or tickets are sold out.
