KUCHING: With quarantine free travel and new directs flights now operating between Singapore and Sarawak, Singaporean schools and teachers are being encouraged to choose Sarawak for their next educational visit.

To launch the new educational campaign, the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office, Singapore (Statos) partnered with Singapore-based IPC Tours to stage a high-tech virtual reality ‘Discover Sarawak Day’ at Statos Gallery on March 18.

Statos chief executive officer Chew Chang Guan explained that the programme was developed in response to a request by Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for Statos to establish new education links between Singapore and Sarawak.

“We believe Sarawak offers a fresh exciting educational experience to all students and are taking things one step further into higher education.

“I was once lucky enough to arrange a similar collaboration between University Malaysia Sarawak and Denmark’s Copenhagen University that saw students visit Sarawak and come up with economic plans for better farming methods to assist the development of local rural communities that delivered a great outcome for everyone involved,” he said in a press statement on Friday (March 25).

He added that their team’s programme and exchange ideas had been very well received by both tour operators, teachers and lecturers.

“It’s great to have IPC Tours, one of Singapore’s most respected educational tour companies collaborating with us on this exciting new programme.”

He further explained that during the event, teachers and students were treated to an all-immersive virtual reality (VR) experience showcasing the rich variety of food, festival and tourism attractions in Sarawak as well as presentations by both Singapore and Sarawak-based tour guides.

“Attendees made use of a number of photo booth opportunities and enjoyed getting to know more about Sarawak’s range of food and products on display.”

IPC Tours managing director MeRaj Kumar welcomed the collaboration to provide excellent educational and interactive VR programmes for school students and teachers.

“Our interactive programmes help bring the real world into the classroom. We are especially proud to have safely taken over 50,000 students across the world on educational trips and look forward to including Sarawak in our future destination options for clients.”
