KUCHING: Sarawak is optimistic about healthcare collaboration with Swiss institutions.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian commended pharmaceutical company Roche’s pioneering work in personalised healthcare and drug research.
During his dialogue with senior Roche executives, he explored several collaboration avenues and highlighted high-value opportunities for Sarawakian.
“Sarawak is deeply interested in Roche’s personalised healthcare and its initial research projects, exploring potential collaborations in drug discovery.
“We had fruitful discussions with Roche’s senior global team management regarding on collaborations and high-value job opportunities for Sarawakians, integral to our state’s development,” he said in a Facebook post.
Dr Sim, who is also the Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, is leading a delegation, alongside his deputies Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee and Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, on a work visit to Switzerland.
Previously, the delegation was warmly received at the Swiss Tropical Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) in Basel, Switzerland.
He said Swiss TPH’s model of funding acquisition through research and project funds resonated with Sarawak’s healthcare aspirations.
“Swiss healthcare is decentralised to the canton and city/municipal council levels, aligning closely with Sarawak’s aspiration for health autonomy under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“Many of their missions and visions resonate well with Sarawak’s healthcare aspirations. We eagerly anticipate the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Sarawak,” he added.
