Sarawak government pumps RM10mil into heritage, arts and culture fund

KUCHING: RM10mil has been allocated by the Sarawak government to the Sarawak Heritage, Arts and Culture Facilitation Fund.

The Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts announced this during a press conference here on Wednesday (April 27).

“The Heritage, Arts and Culture Facilitation Fund focuses on programmes, activities and capacity-building that contribute to the development of Sarawak’s heritage, arts and culture sector,” said Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

“The objectives of the fund are to provide support and help accelerate the recovery of the heritage, arts and culture sector from the impact of the pandemic, promote and ensure the continuity of programmes and activities related to the heritage, arts and culture sector, as well as enhancing the capacity of Sarawak’s heritage, arts and culture industry players.”

“The fund is open to individual creative entrepreneurs, associations, organisations, non-governmental organisations ( and non-profit organisations in Sarawak.

“Each proposed programme and activity must meet the following conditions, which first and foremost, it has to be organised in Malaysia, with programmes and activities that are supported by the government and held physically and face-to-face or hybrid by local or international agencies and institutions.

“Additionally, it has to contribute to the preservation and sustainability of Sarawak’s heritage, arts and culture sector and it benefits and stimulates the recovery of the sector.

“The scope of the programmes and activities eligible are workshops, classes, courses, conferences, symposia, forums, dialogues, exhibitions, festivals, documentation such as book and film publishing, activities involving the local community, as well as other programmes and activities that contribute to capacity-building in Sarawak’s heritage, arts and culture sector.

“Applications start today until Oct 28, and all proposed activities must be implemented in 2022.

“Applications must be submitted no later than 60 days or two months before the date of implementation of the programme or activity, and there are no limitations being put on the amount of RM10mil that can be applied for but paperwork must be submitted first.”
