KUCHING: The Sarawak Malay National Association (PMKS) will soon have its own building once its design is approved by the State Planning Unit (SPA).

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the building will be equipped with various facilities such as an office space and a huge multipurpose hall.

“PKMS has proposed to establish its own building on its own land at Jalan Muhibbah. Its president (Dr Wan Ali Tuanku Madhi has submitted the building plan and once it is approved by SPA, the association will have its own building.

“I am not sure about the cost but the construction is expected to start next year,” he said when met by the media after officiating the closing ceremony of state-level Marhaban competition at Raia Hotel & Convention Centre Kuching last night (Sept 25).

Meanwhile, Wan Ali said the estimated cost of the two storey building is about RM20 million.

He said the building among others will consist of an office space and a multipurpose hall that can accommodate 1,200 people.

“For the ground floor, there will be a parking area. This area will be suitable for us to hold exhibitions and maybe during the month of Ramadan, we will even set up bazaar stalls there.

“Nevertheless, as of now, the appraisal for our building is in the final phase and we are still waiting for its approval. We expect construction works to begin around October or November.

“It will take at least 16 months to complete and be ready in 2025,” he added.
