THE Sarawak Museum Department will be undertaking both physical and non-physical projects for the manifestations of the state’s history and heritage.

One of its major projects is the construction of the Sarawak Museum Campus which is already 35 per cent complete and expects to open to the public in 2020.

Besides that, RM11 million had been approved by the state government to develop the Santubong Archaeological Park and Wallace Centre.

“The project involves conservation and development of several archaeological sites like Sungai Jaong, Bongkissam, Bukit Maras and Batu Buaya. This project has already commenced and will be completed by 2019,” said Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah in his winding up speech at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting, yesterday.

Both projects are under the 11th Malaysia Plan.

Additionally, old forts will be upgraded and conserved as regional museums that will indicate the presence of something valuable and relevant to be shared with the public.
