KUCHING: The Sarawak Museum Department will be launching an online platform for the public to purchase tickets starting from Dec 1, 2023.
This was announced by Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, after the Borneo Cultures Museum (BCM) continues to be a landmark for Sarawak and a popular destination for tourists, recording a total of 302,840 visitors to date, bringing the grand total to 862,503 visitors since its opening.
“Previously, the museum’s ticketing system relied on cash and SPay Global which is in line with the digitisation efforts and the digital economy initiatives of the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
“In addition to the current ticket purchasing mechanism, where visitors are required to show their identity cards (IC) or passports upon making payments at the ticket counter, the public can access the Sarawak Museum Department Portal (museum.sarawak.gov.my) or Sarawak Government Portal (www.sarawak.gov.my) to purchase the admission tickets online.”
Abdul Karim was speaking to the media in conjunction with the Sarawak Heritage Council 2023 meet at Riverside Majestic Hotel here today (Nov 30).
He added that through this website, visitors can effortlessly browse through available museums and securely purchase tickets from the comfort of their homes or while on the go.
“Upon purchasing a ticket, visitors are able to make payment through the online banking system, credit card and SPay Global e-wallet and visitors will receive their QR code tickets instantly via email and Sarawak Gov mobile app, and simply scan them for entry.”
He highlighted that this mechanism eliminates the need for visitors to stand in long queues or be limited by specific operating hours and it gives visitors the freedom to plan their visits according to their schedules, thereby enhancing the quality of their experience.
He said this initiative aligns with the state government’s aspiration to position Sarawak as one of Malaysia’s top tourism destinations.
Among those present at the press conference were Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting; Sarawak Museum Department, director, Nancy Jolhi and Tun Jugah Foundation senior advisor Dr Peter Mulok Kedit.
