KUCHING: The hot and extreme weather conditions are not only experienced in Kuching but also around the world.

According to the Deputy Minister of Urban Planning for the Land and Environment Administration, Datuk Len Talif Salleh, it is a manifestation of global warming, and therefore, all parties need to play their part in dealing with the matter.

“In addition, we should be involved in clean energy, especially in public transportation because it contributes a large amount of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, as well as other activities.

“This means that each of us has a role to play in dealing with climate change and extreme weather around the world,” he said when met by the media at the Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house event at his residence this morning (Apr 23).

He said Sarawak needs to maintain at least 56 percent forest area coverage to deal with global warming.

He added that the coverage of forest areas needs to be increased to deal with the greenhouse effect that contributes to global warming.
