KUCHING: The Sarawak Pay, a cashless mobile payment solution implemented by the Sarawak Government to empower Sarawak’s Digital Economy agenda was launched yesterday by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg at the State Legislative Assembly hall here.

The solution enables payment by way of electronic wallet (e-Wallet), credit card or Internet Banking.

The electronic wallet (e- Wallet ) , licenced under PaymentGalaxy®Wallet and governed by Bank Negara Malaysia, is not only the first e-Wallet in the Sarawak State Government but also the first e-Wallet implemented in the country by a State Government.

According to Johari, the e-Wallet is going to be new form of payment that indicates the people currency is there and modern transaction as well as modern banking business will be based on technology.

“If you were to leave as it is, I think we are not performing our duty to make sure the young generation of Sarawak to be able to adjust to new ways of business, new ways of life and to be connected.

“Therefore, today the launching of Sarawak Pay is not to show Sarawak has the talent but to embrace Sarawak with new financial technology and Sarawak Pay is one of ways for the state to embrace technology in our business transaction,” he pointed out in his speech.

He said Sarawak Pay can be used for government services as well as all hotels own by Sarawak Economic.
