Sarawak sees 11pct decrease in crime index for first four months of 2023

KUCHING: Sarawak has experienced an 11 per cent decline in the crime index during the first four months of 2023, according to Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri.

He said the police had recorded a decrease of 132 cases from January to April this year compared to the same period last year, with 1,107 cases reported in 2023 compared to 1,239 cases in 2022.

Speaking at a press conference held after the inauguration of the new Siniawan Police Station building on Friday (May 26), Comm Mohd Azman highlighted an increase in crime cases in Bau, which rose from 15 cases to 24 cases during the same period last year.

He stressed the need for police officers across the state to continue giving their best, while urging the public to comply with laws and regulations.

He further mentioned that the police are currently making preparations for the upcoming Gawai Dayak and Sarawak Day celebrations.

“The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) are committed to ensuring the smooth running of programmes and events during these festivities.”

Present at the inauguration event were Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata, Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh, Bau OCPD DSP Poge Nyaon, and Bau District officer Constantine Gerald David Jonas.
