KUCHING: The Sarawak Sepak Takraw Association (PSS) has vowed to do its best to help Sarawak become the overall champion at the 21st Malaysian Games (SUKMA) next year.

Its president, Datuk Ismail Abang Saufi, said that to achieve this mission, PSS would ensure that the squad contributes as many gold medals as possible.

He said that providing exposure training to their athletes would be a priority.

“In response to the post mortem analysis that highlighted the lack of exposure compared to teams in Peninsular Malaysia and Thailand, PSS will send both their men’s and women’s teams to train for an extended period in Peninsular Malaysia or Thailand to better equip them to compete against athletes from other states in the future.

“We will collaborate with the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) to create a comprehensive plan on this matter,” he said after attending the Minister of Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House last Sunday.

When asked about their targets, Ismail expressed confidence in the women’s team and duo squad’s ability to contribute to a gold medal at SUKMA next year based on their performance previously. PSS also planned to gather funds to cover the sepak takraw development program instead of solely relying on SSC.
