Sarawak to incorporate latest techniques in sports

KUCHING: Sarawak will incorporate all the latest techniques
and advancements in training methods to the local sporting
fraternity.

As part of its mission the Sarawak Sports Corporation will keep abreast with all the developments in sports sciences to further enhance sports in the state.

CEO of Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) Dr. Ong Kong Swee said this in a telephone interview from Singapore attending the 2019 Australian Strength and Conditioning Association (ASCA) South East Asian Strength and Conditioning conference on applied Strength and Conditioning concepts.

The conference was held at the   Singapore National Stadium from 15 – 16 March  and saw all serious sport science agencies in south east asia including SSC participating to get the latest develpoments in strength training as well as new conditioning concepts being develpoed in the region.

Attending the conference with Dr Ong  who is also Majlis Sukan Negeri Sarawak head were
SSC’s High Performance Centre Manager, Andre Richards and Sarawak’s High Performance Programme Research Assistant, Amirul Zaini .

There were also other
Malaysian representation at the conference, with the Physical Performance team from Johor also attending.

The programme not only provides strategies and insights as to how Sarawak can develop her facilities, but also to create educational platforms for local coaches and sports development personnel in the interest of making Sarawak a sporting powerhouse.

The conference included in it both practical workshops and presentations on a range of subjects including current preparations of the Chinese National Olympics Team team for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and various types of strength training practices aimed to enhance physical performances.

The presentations were delivered by experts in their respective fields, beginning with Australia’s Edith Cowan university  representative Dr G. Gregory Haff PhD providing a presentation on the use of Cluster sets in terms of effectiveness on training time and maximising of strength gains.

Other presenters included Julian Jones who has had experience working with the Australian Olympic teams in weightlifting and swimming, providing a practical session on training of “specific strength for swimming.
