KUCHING: Sarawak is poised to play a significant role in Malaysia’s Hydrogen Economy and Technology Roadmap (HETR), set to launch next month.

According to Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang, Sarawak is currently the most advanced state in terms of hydrogen economy and technology.

“Sarawak is leading in the development of hydrogen technology, with plans for hydrogen vehicles and hydrogen stations, which are currently only available in Sarawak.

“This makes Sarawak a key player in the hydrogen industry in Malaysia,” he told the
media at the Darul Hana Multi Fuel Refueling Station in Petra Jaya near here on Thursday (Sept 21).

Chang expressed hope that through the HETR initiative, the hydrogen industry in Malaysia can advance and contribute significantly to the country’s economy.

The hydrogen industry has the potential to boost national revenue to RM12.1bil and contribute between RM49bil to RM61bil to the national GDP by 2030.

He also noted that hydrogen is in line with the MADANI economy initiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, focusing on high-growth, high-value technology and industry, which aligns with the government’s vision for economic development.
