BINTULU: Sarawakians have been reminded to always practice a healthy and mature political culture, especially during the campaigning period for the Jepak state by-election.

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and Sarawak Public Communications Unit), Datuk Abdullah Saidol said this includes welcoming all candidates, regardless of their party affiliations.

“The people in Jepak constituency are reminded to welcome all election candidates who visit their respective places.

“This is because the 14-day campaigning period is for the candidates to promote themselves and their vision if elected as a representative.

“Therefore, we should welcome them because that is our culture as Sarawakians.”

He was speaking at the Youth Exploration Camp Programme at Rumah Enbau here on Tuesday (Oct 24).

Abdullah also pointed out that the practice of a democratic country is to give space to the community to choose the most qualified and best representative.

He stressed that Sarawak government leaders are committed to continue working hard to ensure the wellbeing of the community through the delivery of their respective work reports.

“All assemblymen under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg have to prepare work reports for a period of every two months.

“This is to ensure that all services and development efforts reach the people,” he said.
