SARIKEI: Sarikei MP Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii has requested for several infrastructures to be constructed to provide convenience for those entering Jakar town.

He said he understood the issues faced by the locals due to the ongoing road closure to make way for construction works.

“The road closure has been in effect for more than a month and I understand this has caused some grievances among traders in the area.

“Therefore, I have applied for an installation of a traffic light to make it easier for motorists to enter Jakar town.

“I also proposed that the surrounding roads be widened to make it easier for large vehicles such as lorries and trailers to make P-turns, thus reducing traffic congestion,” he said after visiting the project site to understand the issues faced by the locals here recently.

Huang, who is also Repok assemblyman, said he had requested that those involved in the Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway project to speed up repair works on Jalan Repok from the roundabout to Jakar.

“The Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway promised to open a temporary road in the following weeks, so that those from Merudu can go to Jakar directly,” he said.

Meanwhile, the road closure is aimed at facilitating the installation of culver and earthen walls at the affected areas, but the closure has made it difficult for the public to enter Jakar town, including larger and heavier vehicles.
