KUCHING: A teacher who was swept away by the wave of excitement prompted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s Kembara Kenali Borneo visit to Miri is now putting the final touches to sketches she has drawn of the royal entourage.

In 96 hours Dayang Azyura Abang Yusup has already done portraits of the Regent of Pahang Tengku Crown Prince Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, Tengku Commander-in-Chief Colonel Tengku Amir Nasser Ibrahim Shah and Tengku Arif Treasurer Tengku Muhammad Iskandar Ri’ayatuddin Shah.

And she is now in the process of completing the portraits of the Agong Sultan Abdullah Ahmad Shah and the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Maimunah Iskandariah.

“I would like to complete a portrait sketch of the royal family including His Majesty’s princesses who participated in this historic journey,” said the teacher of SK Kuala Baram II to Suara Sarawak, yesterday.

She said this is her way of interpreting the excitement over the royal tour which went on to Sibu before proceeding to Kuching where it will end with a visit to Telok Melano on Wednesday (Sept 13).

What’s interesting is that Dayang chose to draw her sketches based on viral photos of the royal visitors.

“That’s why the other portraits are still on hold, for the best photo to be chosen.

“Like the finished picture of the Agong’s three sons, I chose a photo that went viral on social media.”

Dayang admitted that the portrait of Tengku Muhammad’s behaviour in the rain moved her.

“I am personally excited about the Kembara Kenali Borneo tour by Sultan Abdullah and Tunku Azizah,” she said.

According to the Sarikei native, this is the first time she witnessed the royal family travelling in the land of Sabah and Sarawak.

“While in Miri, I only had time to see from afar due to certain factors.

“But from the videos and pictures on social media, their Majesties really have the spirit of the people,” she said, thankful the royal couple met up close with the people.
