KUCHING: Has one ever wondered how geological events in the past have affected our current geological make-up?  For example, why do we get certain geographical formations in parts of Sarawak, which we do not find elsewhere?  And how do these geological formations influence the types of habitats found in these areas?

A good starting point to finding out the amazing stories of geological formations would be our iconic Santubong Peninsular.

The story of the Santubong Peninsular’s formation can be presented in the context of the Plate-Tectonic history of West Sarawak.  Plate-Tectonic refers to what happens when landmasses are moved about, raised, or lowered on drifting continental plates.

The Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) will be hosting this story, in the form of a public talk presented by Hans Hazebroek on September 23, 2017, at 3.00pm at the 56 Hotel located along Jalan Tun Jugah here.

A geologist by training, Hans Hazebroek worked for 17 years in the petroleum industry, exploring for oil and gas in Oman, Norway, Nigeria and Malaysia (Sarawak and Sabah).

During his travels, he became fascinated with the tropical rainforest, in particular with Borneo’s forests.  Hans is known for his photography and writings in three of Sarawak’s most referenced guidebooks – National Parks of Sarawak, A Guide to Gunung Mulu National Park, and A Guide to Bako National Park.

The talk is open to members of the public and they can register by providing their names and contact details via email to constance@sbc.org.my or by calling Ms Constance / Nurulliza at 082-610610.
