SIBU: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for 73-year-old Ling Siew Meau in Sibu Jaya here entered its third day yesterday (Dec 1), yet with no results.

The Sibu Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA) initiated the operation following a comprehensive briefing from the police, outlining the ongoing status and targeted search locations.

These focal points included Nibong Tada Road, Dudong Roundabout, Salim Stabau Road, and the surrounding areas of Sibu Jaya.

“The operation focused on drainage and the surrounding bush/forest areas near the lane. The search method employed was Land Surface.

“At 11.30am, the search team returned to the meeting location after finding that the victim had not yet been located.

“SAR operation resumed in the afternoon at 2pm, focusing outside the Sibu Jaya area based on information received from the public, in areas such as Kemuyang, Islamic cemetery, Chinese cemetery, Kemuyang housing, and new Kemuyang housing,” said the department in its report.

However, the victim remains undiscovered, leading to the suspension of the operation due to worsening weather conditions.

Earlier, Ling, who suffers from Alzheimer’s and kidney problems, left his home at No. 4C, Lane 1B Sibu Jaya, on November 27, and has not returned since.

Subsequently, family members reported him missing at a nearby police station on November 28.
