MUKAH: The new Mukah Airport costing RM435.9 million at KM7, Jalan Mukah-Oya here is expected to be operational before this coming Gawai Dayak.

Meanwhile, work is in progress to complete the airport in order to finish in time to host the first and historic flight.

It was reported recently that security personnel will report for work at the new airport tomorrow.

The source, who requested anonymity, said the personnel’s last day of service at the current short take-off and landing airport (STOLport) is today.

This was confirmed by Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo via WhatsApp yesterday.

The STOLport is about three kilometres from town and some 400 metres off the old Jalan Mukah-Oya.

As for the new airport, it has a 1,500 metre-long and 30-metre-wide runway, while the terminal building has an area of 3,500 square metres.

It is capable of handling 204 passengers during peak hours compared to 40 passengers at the STOLport which only accommodates small aircrafts such as Twin Otters.
