SEDC Ramadan bazaars feature 243 entrepreneurs

KUCHING: The Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) Ramadan bazaars will feature a total of 243 entrepreneurs selling various products ranging from food to clothing.

The opening ceremony of the SEDC Ramadan bazaars was officiated by SEDC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Abdul Aziz Husain at UTC Kuching on Tuesday (March 12).

Abdul Aziz commenced the event by beating the ‘beduk’ (Malay traditional drum), a customary act performed three times daily to signal the time for sahur, the breaking of fast, and after the tarawih prayer.

He was accompanied by SEDC deputy general manager Rakayah Hamdan and SEDC Entrepreneur and Community Development Division director Nikk Adam Abdillah Kipalli.

According to a press release, 12 SEDC Ramadan bazaars will be held from March 12 until April 5.

Two bazaars are located at UTC Kuching and Menara SEDC, while the remaining 10 are situated at various locations, including Medan Niaga Kubah Ria, Medan Niaga Boyan Gersik Sourabaya, Medan Niaga Sri Aman, Medan Niaga Betong, Medan Niaga Sibu, Medan Niaga Bintulu, Medan Niaga Miri, Medan Niaga Marudi, Medan Niaga Limbang, and Medan Niaga Lawas.

These bazaars serve not only to support local traders in earning income during Ramadan but also to facilitate the purchase of food for breaking the fast.

Additionally, they aim to promote unity and understanding within the community, showcase a variety of local products, and attract visitors while promoting SEDC business premises throughout Sarawak.
