SARATOK: Rural landowners have been told to seize opportunities in the agriculture sector to improve their economic standards.

Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said they should also diversify their agricultural products so as not to depend entirely on one type of produce.

“Through the Agriculture Community Outreach Programme (AgriCOP), it will indirectly increase the knowledge, awareness and skills of the targeted group such as the farmers and breeders in the agricultural industry by increasing production and quality of agricultural products,” he said.

Dr Rundi said this at the AgriCOP closing ceremony held at Rh Usan Nyambang, Lengain Sebetan Saratok, recently.

The objective of AgriCOP is to provide direct exposure of agricultural technology to farmers and breeders through exhibitions, demonstrations or briefings.

A total of 117 participants from 14 longhouses attended the programme which was organised by Department of Agriculture.

At the event, Dr Rundi presented a mock cheque worth RM500,000 to upgrade the Lengain farm road which is expected to be implemented in May this year.
