Sekuau Water Plant upgrading at detailed design stage

KUCHING: The project to upgrade the Sekuau Water Plant in Selangau, Sibu, is now at the detailed design stage by consultants appointed by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development.

According to news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), the Deputy Prime Minister who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that the project was slightly delayed due to a change in the scope and cost of the project from RM65.2 million to RM117.04 million after the Value Assessment Lab (VA Lab) was implemented.

“This project is expected to go through the Value Engineering Lab (VE Lab) in the second quarter of 2023.

“And the implementation of this project will benefit 980 households in the Sekuau area and its surroundings,” he said.

He said this in a written response to a question from Selangau MP Edwin Banta in the Dewan Rakyat recently who requested an explanation about the project that was announced in 2016.
